MIZON REVIEW: Snail Wrinkle Repair Sleeping Pack and Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule

Hello everyone, this is a two in one review for two snail related products from the korean brand Mizon. This brand has been around for ages and it was one of the first ones I was dying to try when I first started getting into korean skincare. I would see it on urban outfitters website and would want to try various products out but I just never got around to it until I started working and had my own money to spend on skincare. Innisfree and Mizon were the first two korean brands I tried when I first started buying korean skincare and will always have a special place in my heart. I am hoping to do a bunch of innisfree reviews in the future too so stay tuned! 

I was supposed to post this review over 2 weeks ago but after finals I decided to take a bit of a break from social media so I could get some proper rest and recharge for my next semester. However, I was determined to get at least one blog post out before winter semester starts and here it is!  My skin type 
I have very dry, dehydrated, sensitive and acne prone skin. I steer away from anything with essential oils (especially lavender, eucalyptus and orange peel), alcohol and fragrance as they tend to irritate my skin. I also tend to have quite a bit of acne scarring that I like to target on top of my other issues. My favourite skincare ingredients are snail, aloe, honey/propolis, centella asiatica, marula oil and rose hip oil.

SNAIL WRINKLE REPAIR SLEEPING PACK

 Thoughts 
I originally bought this as a Christmas present for my mother because it has anti-aging claims but she didn't like the idea of putting snail goo on her face so I used it instead. It was my first ever snail product as well as the first sleeping mask I ever tried.The first tub I bought I enjoyed it because it felt hydrating and calming for my extremely dry and sensitive skin. I used it for around 5 months before running out and bought another tub around a year later to try it again. The second time trying it I was really disappointed because my skin had an entirely different reaction to it. Whenever I put it on it felt really heavy and didn't feel like it was absorbing properly. My skin started feeling itchy after application and I would wake up with bumps all over my face (even in areas where I rarely break out). I don't know what happened in the time in between the first and second tub but after reading the ingredients and having more knowledge about my skin sensitivities after buying it the first time, I realized that it contained ingredients that often sensitize and irritate my skin over time. I would not recommend this to anyone with super sensitive or oily skin as it has quite a few irritating ingredients and it's super thick and quite heavy.

Fragrance

 What I liked about it 
+ Hydrating and plumping
+ Locked moisture in throughout the night
+ First tub calmed my break outs
+ Great size for price 
+ Interesting and great ingredients like snail filtrate (first ingredient!!!), mushroom extracts, soybean extracts and honey extract.



 What I disliked about it 
- Has irritating ingredients like lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and orange peel oil (not good for those with sensitive skin)
- Has fragrance (and it became sickening over time)
- Thick and felt like it clogged my pores
- Sticky
- Slow to absorb 
- Cheap packaging (label rubbed off, hard to close lid at times)

 Repurchase? 

No.

Since this product contains snail it is not vegan but Mizon does not test on animals.

 Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule 

 Ingredients 

Snail secretion filtrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene glycol, Glycerin, Alcohol*, Panthenol, Glycereth-26, punica granatum extract, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) extract, Carbomer, Triethanolamine***, Trehalose, Copper tripeptide-1, Human oligopeptide-1, Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, Cornus officinalis fruit extract, Nelumbo nucifera germ extract, Caprylyl glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tropolone, Sodium polyacrylate, Adenosine, Coptis japonica extract and Disodium EDTA.

 Thoughts 
I bought this ampoule this past summer after I finished using Cosrx's Propolis Ampoule. I wanted to find something that was similar but was better at healing acne and treating acne scarring. I read quite a few great reviews of this product and it also didn't have similar ingredients to the sleeping pack that made me break out so I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the texture of this product as it felt oily but absorbed fast and didn't leave my skin feeling greasy. It made my skin feel quite soft after using it and I liked it for the first week or so after buying it. However, over time my skin started to break out again and in areas I don't usually get acne. I was using this at the same time as a new toner and I tried cancelling them out a different times to find out which one was causing irritation for my skin. I eventually found that both of them were and when I stopped using them both my skin began to clear up again. Similarly to the sleeping pack, my skin started feeling itchy and became sensitized over time. If you don't have any allergies to the ingredients I think this would work well for any skin type though.

+ Sturdy packaging
+ Decent size for price (30ml for under $20)

 What I disliked about it 

- Has alcohol in it

- Wasn't moisturizing or hydrating enough

- Didn't see any difference in scarring after using it for a couple weeks (may take longer)
